First female Iowa band twirler set for Michigan State game

Ellen Moody, 19, a liberal arts freshman from Picayune Mississippi, becomes the University of Iowa marching band's first female twirler in public for the September 26 clash with Michigan State. A seasoned baton twirler and alto clarinet player, she earned 20 medals, led state competitions, and plans to major in journalism while pursuing band performance and national fame.

Shueyville Dedicates Remodeled Parsonage

The Evangelical United Brethren parsonage in Shueyville was dedicated last Sunday with an open house from 2:30 to 9:30. Rev R H Aur of Cedar Falls district superintendent delivered the address. music was by the Youth Fellowship. The home was modernized and redecorated in six weeks and is occupied by Rev Mr and Mrs William Suchow.

Parsonage Fire Kills Two Children in Swea City

A Swea City parsonage fire claimed the lives of minister Rev. Everett Beal's two young children Terry 2 and Irene 14 months old. Beal and fire crews escaped but suffered burns, with the cause undetermined and smoke and flames described as fierce. Services for the children are planned at the Baptist church.

Liquor Sales Fall at Iowa State Stores

Liquor sales at Iowa state stores show a sharp year to date decline. July sales dropped 16562 dollars versus last year and August fell 185161 dollars, contributing to a total so far of 201723 dollars less than the prior year. DES MOINES AP Iowa authorities will begin periodic noon hour checks to curb minors using school driving permits for lunch hour joy rides.
