Turner Sues To End Iowa History Society

Iowa Attorney General Richard Turner filed in Johnson county district court to dissolve the State Historical Society and transfer its funds to the state historical department. About $320,000 reportedly sat in an Iowa City bank as gifts and bequests to the society, whose board has long feuded with the department over control of the monies. Theft at John Shada residence on 1218 Twentieth Street

Police report notes a Saturday burglary at 1218 Twentieth Street SW, where a locked sliding door was used to enter between 8:30 a.m. and 10 p.m. A safe containing silver dollars, jewelry, cash, stock shares, and a piggy bank was stolen, valued at 11 800 dollars.
