British Ask For Shot at U.S. Yacht
Britain formally extended a challenge to the United States for the 1970 America's Cup series after Intrepid defeated Dame Pattie. France and possibly Greece showed interest, with Australia as a potential return contender. The Royal Dorset Yacht Club notified the New York Yacht Club of Weymouth’s challenge, and Chubb indicated challenges within 30 days after the last race would count as simultaneous. France also pursued purchasing the Intrepid as a trial vessel for a new 12-meter yacht.
