Linn County prisoners to work in parks and conservation areas

Linn County will put inmates to work in county parks and lands under the Conservation Board starting Monday. Sheriff Jim Smith notes work was voluntary, with no county requirement for five years, and the program aims at Buffalo Creek parkway, Pinicon Ridge, the Central City area, and Lewis Bottom access bridge. Two Men Die In Oskaloosa Plant Boiler Blast

An explosion in a basement room at Continental Overall Co. during a boiler installation killed Lee Smith 36 and Lewis Kiefer 24, both Curran Engineering Co. workers. A Continental employee, Homner Tarr, was injured and listed as fair. The blast occurred during a boiler conversion from steam to gas. Curran called it inexplicable.
