A funeral service is planned Sunday at 2:30 for the Mull family of Martelle killed in a car crash near Cedar Rapids. Surviving children Karen Sue 3 Jerry 11 and Kathy Joan 3 months, with two other Mull children previously not on the trip. The couple and their daughter died when their car collided with a truck on wet pavement returning from a wedding.
Washington high school football fans, sparked by a Davenport game pep rally, paraded through town Thursday night. They left the Otis road quarry and invaded the Town and Country bowling alleys, stealing six bowling balls later abandoned in a parking lot, then gathered in Greene Square. Police called the night noisy but harmless.
Des Moines AP report says Iowa Federation of Labor spent about forty thousand dollars of its 1948 political funds to oppose the right to work law. About twenty-seven thousand went to Beardsley’s Republican bid over Blue, and twenty-five hundred supported Guy Gillette. Al Couch, former state AFL head, testified that Policy Committee Inc raised eighty-four thousand dollars and that much of the Beardsley effort stayed within Iowa. He said the AFL backed Beardsley for opposing the law and that the group went broke after pursuing a testing case with John Connolly Jr.
Los Angeles AP report notes Donald L. Howse 33 was granted an uncontested divorce from Dorothy Howse 28. He receives custody of their three children and $30 weekly support. Dorothy works at the same aircraft plant as Howse. Superior Judge Roger Pfaff emphasizes fairness if wives give up children and both parents work.
London report states five white youths were jailed under an ancient law revived to suppress race rioting. Sentences ranged from 18 months to two years for fighting and making an affray. The jury cleared eight other men including three Black defendants of riotous behavior in a London racial disturbance last week.

John Napierkowski 19 was arraigned in Linn County District Court on a breaking and entering charge. He was jailed at county expense due to lack of funds for counsel after being subdued by Thomas Connolly 24 at the Lloyd Connolly home 1815 Sixth Ave SE following a struggle Wednesday night.
A $7,400 auto accident jury suit was filed in Cedar Rapids naming James Felton as plaintiff on behalf of his minor children Vernon and Joy. Defendant Andrew Koestner allegedly collided with the Feltons on June 8 on Highway 92 in southeast Iowa, seeking $3,700 damages for each child and a jury trial.
A Linn county jury awarded Velma Northrup 1380.30 and Otis Van VVoltenburg 356.85 after a collision involving William and Margaret Durst. Northrup sought 17142.80 and Van VVoltenburg sought 6826.85 in damages. verdicts were delivered in Judge J. E. Heiserman’s court.

U S Vice consul John Page Wentworth aged 33 was in dangerous condition Friday after three gunshot wounds from a young gunman who reportedly mistook him for a Briton. The shots came Friday night as Wentworth stood behind his home while playing with his 3 year old daughter Caroline. The assailant fled. British citizens have been targets of Greek Cypriot terrorists seeking union with Greece. Wentworth is a Worcester Massachusetts native.
Two pre trial conferences are scheduled for Sept 26 in Cedar Rapids federal district court. The first addresses the $859.95 collection suit of the U S government against James H Ewing at 2 30 pm. The second concerns an insurance settlement suit by Ruby A Smith against two life insurance companies at 3 pm.
The United Auto Workers original major demands in 1958 sought productivity based pay gains and wage rate adjustments. Ford settlement dropped the general wage increase, added small hourly raises through cost of living allowances, a 65 percent layoff benefit for 39 weeks, extended unemployment support, pension and severance provisions, and other fringe benefits while preserving job transfer protections. The deal includes no broad wage hike but preserves targeted increases and social protections for affected workers.

Mary Dunn daughter of Dr and Mrs Justin C Dunn of 1260 Thirty third St SE Cedar Rapids died Friday in a Cedar Rapids hospital. She is survived by four brothers James David Gregory and John. Graveside services were held at Mt Calvary cemetery conducted by Rev Edmund J Becker of All Saints church with Monahan Stewart funeral home in charge of arrangements.
