Food for Defense drive outlined for Midwest farmers
Midwest farm leaders were briefed on a national food for defense program to mobilize production for war and postwar needs. Secretary Wickard stressed a coordinating AAA role with state and county boards guiding farmers toward production goals and avoiding a separate food administration. Wayne Darrow described extending AAA procedures to defense crops with farm canvassing to set goals rather than allotments. Loveland announced Iowa’s defense goals and a clear job ahead for farmers in 1942.
