Iowa City Hero Revisited War Years In Europe
Bill Cupp, a University of Iowa sociology graduate student, retraced his 1944 escape from German lines in Belgium and France visiting rescuers and places where he was sheltered. He recounts the near capture and how Belgian and French aid kept him hidden, and notes his postwar studies and marriage to Elizabeth Penningroth. The trip, by bicycle June 22 to August 23, included a reunion with Rene and Marie Hombeck who sheltered him for weeks after he was shot down on a B-24 mission.
