Iowa To Collect 10 Per Cent Tax On and Tickets
IOWA CITY AP The federal tax on University of Iowa athletic tickets must be collected despite Assistant Attorney General Neil Garrett's opinion that the tax does not apply in Iowa. Athletic director Dr E H Lauer said regulations by the internal revenue commissioner require collection. He said the opinion is helpful for efforts to set aside the ruling and the department has asked for a waiver since profits would revert to the university. If the revenue ruling is changed, tax money will be refunded to ticket buyers.
