Former Nicaraguan president Anastasio Somoza was killed by bazooka fire in downtown Asuncion while in his white Mercedes-Benz. His driver and bodyguard also died. attackers used a blue Chevrolet and later a Volkswagen beetle. Police reported over 25 machine-gun rounds fired. border with Argentina closed to prevent escape.

Body found near Clarence amid head injuries in roadside park

The partially dressed body of a white woman about 20 was found near a roadside park on U.S. Highway 30, west of Clarence.
