Rare 1913 Liberty nickel gifted to Smithsonian
Mrs. Norweb donated a 1913 Liberty head nickel to the Smithsonian in Washington to honor her husband R Henry Norweb's 32 years in diplomacy. She declined a 300000 offer for the coin, which was illegally struck at the Philadelphia mint during a 1913 design pause. The coin came from a 1954 Egyptian government auction of King Farouk’s coins and stamps.
