Ebert notes The Town as a well made crime procedural with strong performances. The film follows Doug MacKay and his Charlestown crew as tensions rise between loyalty, romance, and a looming FBI pursuit. The focus drifts from character growth to gunfight theatrics, limiting its deeper ambitions.
Roger Ebert praises The Town as an effective thriller with Ben Affleck directing and a strong ensemble. He highlights Jeremy Renner as Jem a volatile force in a disciplined team while noting Doug’s central arc toward an acceptable ending. He admires pacing and performances but finds chases and gun battles dull.
