Barge Crash Knocks Out Texas Bridge Killing Five
A fleet of barges ripped a 160 foot bridge opening to South Padre Island causing at least five deaths as vehicles plunged into 50 to 85 foot deep water. Thirteen rescued, two hospitalized, and several missing as divers search for victims and identify cars by license plates. Coast Guard notified early Saturday after the tug Brown Water V and four barges struck the span carrying steel and phosphate with no cargo spill.
