No indictments in Saudi beatings case

Ottumwa Mayor Jerry Parker said there was no cover up after a Wapello County grand jury returned no indictments against three men who confessed to beating five Saudi Arabian employees of Saudia Airlines. Israelis Push Into Beirut After Gemayel Assassination

Israeli troops backed by tanks and gunboats entered West Beirut within hours of Beshir Gemayel’s assassination. Ray orders 4.7 percent cut to state budgets

Governor Robert Ray via telephone from Japan directs a 4.7 percent budget cut across departments with hiring freezes and travel limits. The move follows Comptroller Ronald Mosher lowering revenue forecasts by 77.1 million, shrinking expected year-end surplus and leaving a near balance of 2 million.
