Centennial Bridge Reopens Across Mississippi River
After 17 months the Centennial Bridge between Davenport Iowa and Rock Island Illinois is fully open with four lanes and a reopened pedestrian walkway on the 3000 foot span. Bridge manager Sue Nelson notes the revived crossing may see traffic rise from about 16000 to 30000 vehicles daily.

Waterloo police chief returns after heart attack
Waterloo Police Chief Thomas Jennings returned to work on Monday three months after a heart attack. The 49 year old plans for 20 hours in the first week, then gradual full time return under medical permission. Jennings collapsed at home June 27 and was treated at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota before beginning rehabilitation.

Fort Madison man held mother captive in standoff
