A University of Iowa study urges policy makers to address danger in farming and mining. Farming is the most dangerous occupation cited by workers, while underground mining follows as the second most risky.

A 14 year old Washington state boy visiting Cedar Rapids was struck and killed on Interstate 380 after being chased by four Cedar Rapids teens. Police charged two 16 year olds, a 15 year old and a 14 year old with involuntary manslaughter. The driver of the vehicle that struck him was not charged.
Gina Miller a 19 year old Hiawatha woman and Scott Williams a 20 year old Marion man settled disputes over an abortion and custody by agreeing to place the child for adoption. The agreement avoided Linn District Court Hearings and bound Miller to potential jail or a fine if she aborts outside health reasons. Miller 12 weeks pregnant and represented by Hanna Weston with ICLU backing.
Scientists transplant human immune systems into mice by injecting human blood or tissue from aborted fetuses. The resulting mice display human immune characteristics, enabling faster testing of AIDS, cancer, hepatitis, herpes, mononucleosis and other disease drugs vaccines. Dr David Katz calls the work a first step toward usable humanized models, with Nature to publish details by Mosier and colleagues.
