Linn County to appeal property value increases plan

Linn County Auditor Merle Kopel said the board intends to appeal a state order raising Cedar Rapids residential values 27 percent, farmland values 1 percent, and other Linn County residences 35 percent. He noted widespread protests and said a meeting with the Linn County Property Taxpayers Assn is planned, plus a large rally at the courthouse Tuesday.

October Goal Airmail Service On First Class

The postal service announced that starting October 11 first class mail will receive service equal to or better than air mail for a 10 cent stamp. The goal is to guarantee air transport for distant destinations and remove the premium for an airmail stamp.
