Chicago reports Wednesday receipts of 15 000 cattle 8 000 hogs and 1 500 sheep. Butcher hogs steady to strong and sows up to 25 higher while cattle and calves show mixed moves with high choice and prime grades lifting prices. Grain quotations follow.

New York stocks closed down Tuesday after trimming losses. Volume was about 3 million. Dow Jones averages reported. In Omaha live cattle, steer and heifer sales were slow with declines of up to 25 cents. prices ranged from 24,506 to 28.00 for top steers and 23.25 to 26.85 for good heifers. cows rose to 16.50 and up.

UPI reports live hog prices with price quotes across weight classes. Buyers noted 15 to 25 higher for butchers while sows and heavier hogs show varied quoted ranges in pounds and dollars per hundredweight.

Sumner Polio Case Reported in Bremer County

Wayne Gon nerman, 20, of Sumner, is in good condition at University hospitals with paralytic polio. This is Bremer county's first polio case. He had received no polio vaccine shots.

In Chicago trading soybeans rose on short covering while September corn faced liquidation. Wheat gained about 1 percent, and oats and rye moved mixed as traders priced grain futures with uncertain demand.

Chicago cash provisions report shows mixed grain prices

The Chicago market reports no wheat or soy bean sales. Corn prices range from No 1 yellow 1.20 to No 3 yellow 1.18. Oats list No 1 heavy white at 67 4 cents, and heavy/extra heavy white at 67% with unclear decimals. Soybean oil at 39.00. Barley malting 1.15 to 1.20, feed 0.88 to 1.05.

Quaker Oats Co. reported record sales for the year ended June 30 totaling 322.163 million dollars, up 7.646 million from the prior year. Net income reached 13.167 million, per share earnings 3.29, up from 3.22, with cash dividends paid over two years at 2 and 1.76.

Cedar Rapids Schools Consider Stronger Plumber Training Program

The Cedar Rapids board of education discussed expanding the apprenticeship program for plumbers and steamfitters. Charles Rohde of Darragh and Associates urged doubling or tripling outputs, obtaining a $20,000 international union grant for training equipment, and adding full time teaching staff with more classroom space.

Cedar Rapids board of education approved a contract to acquire a 9 acre elementary school site near Shaver park northeast of Sharwood first addition for 35500. The land will support a new north Cedar Rapids school as part of a 4.99 million bond plan funding seven new buildings and renovations. The price covers adjacent sewer water main and street work.

Collins Declares 50 Cent Quarterly Dividend

Collins Radio Co. board declares a regular quarterly dividend of 50 cents per share on the 4% cumulated preferred stock. Stockholders of record as of Sept. 18 will receive the payment, which is scheduled for Oct. 1.

Vacant Farmhouse Burns Near Aurora

A vacant tenant house on a farm three miles southwest of Aurora, owned by Byron Streitmatter, burned to the ground Sunday. The cause of the fire is not known.

A city roundup notes theft reports including a $17.50 ring from Prastka Jewelers at 122 Third Ave SE and a $13 clothing loss from Mrs. Joe Zakar Czemy at 1724 B Ave NE. Other items: $140 billfold stolen from Audrey Novak at Esquire Club, various events listed by local clubs, a child injury from a hit and run, and Leo Johnson jailed 60 days for license violations.

Iowa City police say Saturday burglary at the Johnson County Creamery totalled 1461 dollars in cash. No suspects immediately named and investigators continue reviewing evidence.

Collins Appoints Iowa State Man To New Post

Dr. John A. Greenlee of Ames is named director of engineering personnel and education at Collins Radio Company. He will lead recruitment training and education programs for technical staff at the Cedar Rapids division. Greenlee previously directed NSF summer institutes at Iowa State University and holds degrees from the University of Iowa. He served on active naval duty in World War II and remains a commander in the naval reserve. he is married.

Hit and Run Driver Fined in Cedar Rapids Court

Robert Fox 21 of 1635 Ninth St NW was fined 35 in municipal court after a Sunday hit and run at F Avenue and Ellis Boulevard NW. Police say Fox ran a red light causing a collision with James Sthen 2626 F Ave NW and was arrested Monday night for leaving the scene failing to report and losing control of his car.
