Iowa to pay 1.6 million to settle 10 lawsuits over bias
Iowa state government will pay more than 1.6 million dollars to settle 10 lawsuits largely over hiring or promotion bias. Seven plaintiffs from a decade-old class action receive 10,714 dollars each, plus prior settlements of 35,000 and 125,000 dollars. Two cases remain pending. A separate 1.25 million payout covers a 2010 medical error at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Kimberly Anderson receives 95,000 for illegal termination claims and Debra Howe is promoted as part of her 260,000 settlement.
