The Cedar Rapids Linn County school board approved a 10 year local option sales tax and set February 13 for the vote. Superintendent Dave Markward said the 10 year term maximizes tax dollars and reflects needs beyond a shorter period. Nine of ten speakers were from other Linn County boards urging the 10 year plan.
Families mourn at the World Trade Center site as names of 2749 victims are read aloud. Relatives touch the sacred ground and recall loved ones, with Emma and Mario Calvi and Sherri Williams among those honoring the dead on September 11.
