Mayfield clinches NASCAR playoff spot with Richmod win
Jere Mayfield captured the Chevrolet 400 at Richmond International Raceway on Saturday night after Kurt Busch ran out of gas in the final stretch. Mayfield’s victory earned him a place in NASCAR’s Nextel Cup Chase, as Kasey Kahne and Jamie McMurray failed to crack the top 10. Other contenders, including Bobby Labonte Kevin Harvick and Dale Jarrett, were left outside the playoff field as Jeff Gordon led the standings opting into the chase structure with a new playoff format in place.
