Jury finds C R policemen didn't use excess force

A federal court jury in Cedar Rapids awarded no money to Refugio Martinez after his claim that two city officers John M White and William Hintz used unnecessary force during his arrest in 1982. Martinez alleged the officers dragged him by the hair and throat and Hintz pressed his chest. The defense said Martinez was intoxicated, though witnesses testified he was not. The jury rejected the claim.

Balloonist Lands In Power Lines Over Cedar Rapids

Roger Bentley piloting his hot air balloon with 80 yearly flights touched down about 6 15 p m on the southwest side of Cedar Rapids. The balloon ripped by wires cut power to Westdale Mall and about 400 homes. Power was restored in 75 minutes. No injuries reported. Bentley expects $200 repair to get back in the air within days.

U.S. urges Vietnam to free and resettle prisoners
