Veals Reach 15 Dollar Peak as Steer Prices Fall
Chicago veal calves climbed to 15 dollars this week the highest since early 1930 as steer demand narrowed. Dressed beef in the east was ample and slow due to warm weather. Carryover beef looked heavy, heavy weights down 25 to 50 cents, yearlings down up to 25 cents, with all steer and yearling quotes at week’s end near the month's lows. Some long fed steers still brought 12 dollars plus, while grain-fed steers sold around 11 to 12 dollars.
