Gr eam e Witty of Great Britain was named the best plowman at the World Ag Expo banquet in Iowa. He won the Golden Plow Trophy after placing first in oat stubble plowing and second in grassland plowing. Helge Nielsen of Denmark finished second and Bengt Hermansson of Sweden third. US plowmen finished 35th and 44th of 50.
The World Ag Expo ends with a Cairn of Peace dedication amid flags from 25 nations. Amana Colony artisans built the brick monument featuring a clock and a brick from each participating country, relocated near the Iowa Visitor's Center on the fairgrounds. Bishop Francis Dunn presided as a symbol of global peace through agriculture.
