The Cedar Rapids water department pumped 590,192,000 gallons in August under superintendent George Lee, averaging 19,038,000 gallons daily. Electrical energy use totaled 793,800 kilowatt hours, about 1,342 kWh per million gallons, with well-water hardness at 16 grains per gallon and treated water at 5.26 grains per gallon.
Beginning Monday the Cedar Rapids human rights commission will have a representative at Jane Boyd Community House each day at 4 p.m. to receive complaints and discuss problems. The service allows after hours visits without appointments.

Raymond J Sullivan has been appointed business manager at Mt Mercy College replacing Sister Genevieve Birchard who recently resigned. Sullivan, a Notre Dame 1950 graduate, hails from 419 Cherry Hill road SW and previously supervised central services at University of Iowa Hospital and worked as a production control coordinator at Collins Radio.

Mary Ellen McCormick 91 formerly of 1400 Second avenue SE died in a Phoenix nursing home after a brief illness Born February 26 1879 in Winthrop she married Joseph McCormick Jr former Cedar Rapids Gazette staff and Cedar Rapids Tribune editor She taught music and voice in Jackson Nebraska and Manchester Iowa Survived by son Joseph Jr Phoenix daughters Ray mond Lynch Bethesda Maryland and William Fearer Kailua Hawaii five grandchildren and four great grandchildren Body to be flown from Northwest funeral home Phoenix to Stewart funeral home for noon to 9 pm calling Sunday
George Simon 80 of Meth Wick Manor died Thursday after a long illness. Born Oct 1, 1889 in Ely he farmed nearby most of life until moving to Cedar Rapids. He lived with nephew William Roach at 2144 Forty-second St NE. Memorial services Monday at 1:30 pm by Rev John P Woods at Westminster United Presbyterian Church. Burial Czech National Cemetery. Florenc Bud Wright 3018 Adel Street SE Cedar Rapids resident for most of her life and longtime Collins Radio cafeteria employee died in Iowa City Thursday following a brief illness. Born January 27 1900 in Lake City she was a member of the Christian church and Serve A club. Surviving are daughter Beverly Scrivner Sun Prairie Wisconsin three sons Robert Des Moines William E Cedar Rapids and Bernard Wright Iowa City three brothers Elwood Nichols Ogden Utah Don Nichols Lake City Lester Nichols Lake City and sister Ruth Garnatt Auburn. Memorial services Saturday at 10 30 a m Chapel of Memories Iowa City conducted by Rev Jack Zervas First Presbyterian Church. Burial Cedar Memorial Cemetery friends may call Friday. Casket will not be opened after the service. The family suggests contributions to a charity of choice.
Herietta Hartwig of 827 Fourth Avenue SE Cedar Rapids died Friday after a long illness. Born February 20 1895 at Mt Vernon she married Ralph Hartwig September 19 1921 in Cedar Rapids. Survived by husband three sisters Ruth Simonds Edith Townsend Hazel Chisen and a brother Howard Hahn all of Mt Vernon. Service at Brady mortuary.

Wendl Spinka pled guilty in Linn district court to possession of a narcotic drug with intent to sell. Judge Maxwell imposed a suspended five year sentence in the men’s reformatory at Anamosa and placed him on probation. Spinka, arrested in March, was linked to selling marijuana to a police undercover agent January 15 and had a southeast Cedar Rapids address at the time.
In Waterloo on Oct 19 1968 a car train collision killed Ronald D Ledtje. Judith Ledtje Wuttke petitions 200000 for Ledtje estate and 20000 for herself, blaming Rock Island railroad for negligence. Engineer Clair H Denny named as defendant died in Cedar Rapids last year.
