Propane plant blast and lightning fire reshape Iowa towns
A western Iowa propane business, Johnson Propane Inc., was destroyed by an explosion and fire that investigators ruled accidental. An employee was burned but hospitalized in stable condition. The owner plans to rebuild both Johnson Propane and a nearby restaurant that burned last summer after a lightning strike. In Mason City, the Chamber of Commerce will relocate due to mold in the Park Inn building. Iowa receives 18.9 million in federal funds for wetlands and farmland protection. Air quality alerts issued for three counties due to pollution. Volunteers advance a rural heritage museum project in Clayton County with local support.
