Unity Center Leader Faces Contempt Over Church Funds
Elizabeth Edwards, former Unity Center head in Cedar Rapids, must show cause why she should not be held in contempt for allegedly violating a court injunction that barred withdrawal of church funds. Plaintiffs Hazel Ramer, Bertha Dutton, and John Dinter filed the contempt motion in Linn District Court, alleging Edwards cashed a $12,240.97 CD with the late Mabel Swanson’s name. An injunction blocks Edwards from withdrawing or spending funds and from selling church real estate at 1015 Second Avenue SE or personal property, with Allen Motor Co. claiming a $1 million damage due to delays in a vehicle sale. A Tuesday hearing on dissolving the injunction was postponed to pursue an amicable solution, with contempt hearing set for September 21 at 2:30 p.m.

Lance case probes spurs budget director link claims
FBI agents conducted a broad inquiry into the Lance overdraft matter in December 1976. Stokes says the probe involved interviewing relevant parties and notes the Senate committee could have acted on the facts if the January report favored him. Campbell’s allegations are questioned by Campbell’s attorney as unsupportable and contradicted by the case record.
