Iowa City Objects To Gas Ruling In Federal Case
The city of Iowa City filed exceptions in federal court disputing master Herrick’s ruling that Iowa City Light and Power could substitute natural gas for artificial gas and that a 1935 rate ordinance is valid. Hearings set for September 21. The city contends an expired franchise required manufactured gas, that a revoking council action was illegal, and that natural gas is pricier. It also challenges evidence on the rate ordinance providing reasonable return.
