Elizabeth Catlett honored as namesake for new Iowa dorm
A 1,049 bed 300,000 square foot facility rises behind Burge Currier and Stanley halls near the Iowa River and Dey House home to the Iowa Writers Workshop. Catlett, a famed 20th century sculptor printmaker, taught by Grant Wood and known for depictions of black life, could be the hall’s namesake if regents approve. Her work appears in MoMA and the Met, with pieces in national collections and a scholarship funded by UI donors.
