Salinger film review paints a revealing portrait of a private author
Los Angeles Times critic Kenneth Turan analyzes Shane Salerno's Salinger documentary. The film chronicles J D Salinger's life from early literary ambitions to reclusive exile, revealing interactions with friends and associates, the wartime photo, a controversial postwar marriage, and the claim that five new books were planned for 2015. The piece praises the investigative effort and pacing while criticizing dramatized scenes and misused settings, noting Salinger's desire for privacy and the uneasy exposure the film creates.
