Matanuska Colony Settling In During Alaska Summer
Dr. R. L. Mantz and Mrs. Mantz recount life in the Matanuska colony inland from the Gulf of Alaska where 200 drought refugees began farming with forty-acre plots. Livestock loans, canning factory plans, and a community centered on school, hospital, and theater mark progress as families adapt to long daylight and improved homes. TheMantzs traveled 1400 miles up the Yukon and attended their daughter Eunice Mantz’s June graduation in Los Angeles.
