Imports Of Work Horses Predicted By An Town Dealer
DES MOINES AP A short age of young work horses impends in Iowa and the nation says W L Elder head of the Elder Horse and Mule Commission. He cites a report from the American Horse Association Chicago noting Iowa must import 5000 work horses and about 2100 work mules before 1937 for replacements. This would cost Iowa about 125000 for stock. The national shortage is 175000 work horses and 325000 mules. The deficit stems from farmers not raising colts between 1925 and 1933. Over ten year olds are in surplus while 3 to 10 year olds are in short supply.
