President Kennedy urged 12 steel company executives to keep prices steady after a scheduled Oct 1 wage increase. He warned a price rise could destabilize the economy, trigger cost spirals in military procurement, and force restrictive government actions that would hinder recovery and employment. He cited McNamara on potential $4 to $5 per ton increases.
William McKinney a 40 year old Franklin Pennsylvania chemical engineer says he will move his wife Helen and five children to Melbourne Australia to escape inflation and socialism. He departs September 17 for Canada then November 2 to Australia amid hopes of better opportunities.

Massey of Cedar Rapids admitted buying electronic gear with forged checks after deputies arrested him as he went to collect a shipment. authorities say the total value could exceed ten thousand dollars with many checks uncounted and some shipments never picked up. He forged customer names and had checks in Iowa City and Waterloo. a $150 poodle purchase triggered the case.
