Pre-War Fear Of Raids Fails To Materialize
United Press reports that intensified air raids on Great Britain have not matched pre war predictions of massive casualties or widespread destruction. During World War I 857 were killed and 2,058 wounded, with 1.4 million pounds in damage. In the current period only 1,075 civilians died last month, and Britain had prepared 150,000 emergency beds which Churchill notes remained unused as peacetime hospitals could handle casualties.
