Night shuttle lands after first dark flight at Edwards

Challenger completed a flawless eight flight with a first night launch and landing in California. Lt Gen James Abrahamson praised the mission as fabulous while commander Richard Truly called the landing perfect and fun. Guion Bluford and Dale Gardner hailed the shuttle's future as a milestone for spaceflight. The crew, welcomed at Johnson Space Center by 300 people, noted a successful mission despite a lingering toilet issue. The next flight using Columbia is planned for Oct 28 with Spacelab.

Waterloo police arrest suspect in murder case

A 22-year-old Waterloo man, Duane Eddy Wright, was charged with murdering 59-year-old Louis Nicholas Reuter after his body was found stabbed in an alley. Wright’s 18-year-old brother, Donnell Larry Wright, is in custody as a witness, with another suspect still sought. Police say robbery was the motive and that the murder weapon may be recovered.
