Jefferson Booster Club to meet at the high school, focusing on concession stand work. Homer Stone reports wife lost a $158 brown leather billfold at the city market with no ID. International Visual Communicators hold a meeting at the Cedar Rapids Art Center with a 42-minute color film on silkscreening.
Five individuals were arrested on drunk driving charges by the highway patrol and sheriff's deputies. Delton Marti Duane Johnson Elma DeZarn and J W Herbert Ross were released on 300 bond with Ross remaining jailed after unable to post. Charles L Thompson held on 500 bond after arrest for a second offense.
Vice President Spence Agnew caused friction in San Clemente during a trip to Asia as Nixon’s team debated his fate in 1972. Plans shifted for Portland and a Truman briefing, with Agnew scrambling to explain tough statements on Cambodia and Lon Nol while Kissinger and Rogers remained his only White House contacts.

Wilma Mae Williams of 2271 C street SW suffered abrasions and cuts after her car ran off Ely road SW at 6 35 p m. She was treated at St Luke's hospital and released. Police report minor injuries from the Saturday night crash.
July testimony by Eugene Rassides assistant secretary of the treasury for enforcement cites a 15 month period ending last April with at least 4330 bombings 1475 attempted bombings and 35129 threats. The incidents caused 43 deaths and 21.8 million in property damage with a wide range of groups blamed.
Charles M. Fisher, 35, of 1361 Twentieth Avenue SW, was jailed Saturday night on drunk driving charges. He was also booked for driving with a suspended license after being picked up by a deputy sheriff on the southwest side.
Darwin E. Ambers 24 of 1620 Fourteenth Avenue SE pled not guilty before Municipal Judge John Reilly on a pandering charge. Trial set for Oct 9 and Ambers, also charged with parole violation, was sent to county jail in lieu of $110 bond.
Antioch California United Press International reports Jack Davidson spent 24 hours perched 140 feet above the Sacramento River when his lift bridge jammed in the open position. Fire crews tried ladders and a snorkel truck but rescued him by lowering him in a litter basket to the hydraulic span.
Twenty people drowned over three days in flood stricken Calcutta where 30,000 have been forced from their homes, police reported on Saturday.

Police linked a body found near a car to a suspected killer and uncovered two farmhouses in the Creston valley where Mr. and Mrs. Phipps were shot in their living room and their children killed in their beds. The youngest son was missing and presumed hostage. The alfalfa farm families operated 10 to 20 acres. No motive given.
Michael E. Jackson, 21, Milwaukee, was arrested by Cedar Rapids police Saturday on a justice of the peace warrant charging malicious threats to extort. The warrant was issued by Justice Glenn Powers Wednesday. Jackson is jailed on a $1,000 bond.
A pig escaped from a farmer’s pickup on the way to market in Crawfordsville Indiana. The animal observed the Walk signal while crossing a street but was recaptured soon after.
