Reed Reports Half Of Iowa Corn Safe From Frost Damage
government meteorologist Charles D Reed said in his weekly crop report that two dry weeks and abnormal heat pushed corn toward maturity, reducing yields by up to five bushels per acre on about a quarter of acreage. Stalks were damaged, ears unlikely to fill. Drought worsened pasture conditions and plowing for winter wheat seeding remains hard.
