Memorial marks anniversary of Richland house explosion

Survivors and relatives placed a large iron seven with flower wreaths at the site to honor seven victims of the September 6, 1999 blast. The memorial will stay a few weeks before wreaths move to Birmingham graves.

Shay No. 9 Restored for Public Display in Mount Pleasant

Shay No. 9, built in 1923 in Lima Ohio, has been cosmetically restored by the Midwest Central Railroad and is back on public display in Mount Pleasant after two years of work. Volunteers led by Dave Christe and Matt Crull recreated the 1940s appearance, including original lettering and a preserved cab torch, with the engine previously retired in 1998 and on loan to events like the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion.
