Iowa hospital cost report flags higher patient resource use
An index shows average patients at Iowa hospitals use about 20 percent more resources than state norms. Officials position the report as useful for comparisons and public understanding, while noting it lacks quality metrics and charity care costs. St Luke's in Cedar Rapids credits staff management, bulk buying, and low debt for lower costs, with current debt at 12.2 million and gains from outpatient services despite fewer admissions.
