Beer scare study draws laughs from Iowa brewers
United Press International reports a weekend note that beer may contain nitrosamines, but Iowa brewers and distributors dismiss cancer fears. Rusty Laird of the Iowa Wholesale Beer Distributors Association calls the risk negligible, noting past similar tests caused little reaction. Joe Pickett Jr. of Pickett's Beer in Dubuque says no brewery uses the substance, praising beer as healthy while recalling dietary sweetener scare comparisons. Also, on this date in 1975, Lynette Fromme aimed a gun at President Ford in Sacramento before a Secret Service intervention.
