Michael Smallwood of route one Ely was acquitted of making a false report to a peace officer. A Linn county deputy sheriff signed the information after a report Aug 23 alleging his wife held a gun. After a 3 hour 45 minute trial Justice Jessie McCormack found Smallwood innocent. The charge was under a new Iowa law passed this year.

Cedar Rapids Teen Flung From Bike Survives with Minor Injuries
A 17-year-old Cedar Rapids rider was thrown 43 feet after his motorcycle hit a car on Center Point road NE. He sustained abrasions to the left elbow and right arm, treated at St. Luke's hospital, and released. The rider, Steven H. Bowers, 3752 G Avenue NE, was reported at about 25 mph. the other driver, Ronald J. Stastny, 2350 Brookland Drive NE, was charged with driving without a valid Iowa license. Witnesses described a reverse somersault before landing on the pavement.
