Cedar Rapids issued permits for 22 new homes valued at 87 575 in August. Total permits were 731 with fees 1302.85. Remodeling covered 113 dwellings for 72 100 and eight commercials for 30 147. Garage work totaled 32 new 6860 and 14 garages remodeled 1415. Barns sheds three 430 chapel reroofed 150 foundations five 1850 hotel remodeled 500. Last year 762 permits and 1395 15.
Court house news reports six divorce petitions charging cruel and inhuman treatment. Donald M. Casner seeks a divorce from Marjorie L. Casner and restoration of her maiden name. Marie Root seeks a divorce from Rexford Root. they have two children. Gertrude Blake seeks divorce from Kenneth Blake with custody of their child. R. R. Kepler seeks divorce from Barbara Mae Kepler with three children. Alice Marie Schnare seeks divorce from Fred Herman Schnare with alimony and injunction. Viola Marie Spicher seeks divorce from Donald Henry Spicher with $250 alimony. they have no children.
County clerk's office reports a flood of petitions filed before Friday 5 p.m. deadline for the September term. Listed judgments include Peng 4a vs Frank Ss for 1891 dollars and others such as Sanderson vs E P and tech pieces 112.49, George C. Lawrence vs M G Strickel 10, Quentin L Otis vs Gerald Bradd 265, and multiple other amounts and parties.
Judge G K Thompson denied William Goyers request to modify the divorce decree granting custody to him for two minor children. The March 11 1939 split is noted. The monthly support from Goyer to his former wife was reduced from 25 to 15 dollars, with the court retaining jurisdiction for future orders.
Gilbert Emerson as administrator of Virgil Emerson’s estate seeks 2800 in damages claiming the Milwaukee rail road company caused the fatality through negligence. The suits were filed on Tuesday against the defendant corporation.

The will of James Dunlop who died August 10 was admitted to probate by Judge G K Thompson. Jamet Dunlop widow and sole beneficiary was appointed executrix without bond.
A hearing on the will of Mathias Benesh, who died August 27, is scheduled for Tuesday at 9 in the morning. The proceeding will determine the estate distribution and related matters.
The public improvements department rejected several sewer project bids that surpassed the engineering department estimates. One project on Hamilton street SW to Twenty-second avenue SW was awarded to Haegg Construction Co. for 2,081.75 dollars, with Evan Sewer and Water Service as the only other bidder. Rejected bids included North parking of Eighteenth Avenue SW, the alley between K Street and Third Street SW, and Soutter Avenue SE, all exceeding their respective estimates.
City council on Thursday approved curb and gutter for Twenty-fifth Street SE from Mount Vernon Avenue to 361.5 feet south of Eleventh Avenue and Hamilton Street SW from Nineteenth Avenue to Twenty-First Avenue.
