Veterans Protest Pension Deductions At Iowa Home
Twenty three Spanish American War veterans and one Civil War survivor left the Iowa Soldiers home in Marshalltown protesting maintenance deductions from their federal pension checks. The board of control set rules on July 25 requiring single veterans to contribute up to 16 dollars and married veterans up to 26 with a maximum payment of 35 dollars per month. The move follows a 1939 law. officials say the plan aims to be fair but may be adjusted after a trial period if changes prove necessary. Protests from service clubs have been reported.
