Gentleman Bandit Nabbed After Sioux City Kidnap Plot
In Verdel Nebraska a gunman known as the Gentleman Bandit was jailed after the 18 year old kidnapping victim slipped away at a farm house. Maris Warfield a 19 year old Sioux City native helped identify the kidnapper who was later recaptured following a rainfall of farmers aiding the arrest. The kidnapper weighed about 175 pounds, stood nearly 6 feet 2 inches, and showed no ransom intent. Warfield and Maribelle Moore were abducted near Sioux City and driven toward Verdel before the escape by Moore prompted pursuit and capture. The gunman escaped briefly by breaking a jail lock but was recaptured with a shotgun-wielding farmer aiding authorities. He claimed to plan to move the captives to another location, according to Warfield.
