Cedar Rapids organizations including the Public Library Foundation Sokol Cedar Rapids and the National Czech & Slovak Museum join for CR2CR to raise 50000 for a library in Decin Czech Republic damaged by floods. The drive runs through Brewnest on Oct 11 with the aim to repay the Czech Republic’s 2008 flood aid.

Movie Magic with Mike Zachs silent film event in Dubuque
Film buffs will view pre 1908 silent clips at 7 p.m. September 12 in Dubuque’s Historic Millwork District as part of Voices in the Warehouse District. Mike Zachs will narrate how early stunts and effects were made using a 1913 Davenport projector. Library Wins Grant For One Woman Play At Elgin
The Elgin Public Library received a 750 dollar Puffin Foundation grant to present a professional one woman show by Karan Founds-Benton. Mary Swander's Driving the Body Back follows a woman tracing Irish Iowan roots as she drives her mother’s body across Iowa.
