Roche faces up to five years and 250000 fine if convicted. He stays with his parents in Davenport with travel limited to Iowa and Colorado.
Jared James York 20 of Washington Iowa appeared on first degree murder charges in the death of Kylie Paige York born six months ago. The infant died after an Aug. 26 shaking at Yorks apartment and autopsy found head injuries from violent shaking. Bail set at 1 million.
Cedar Rapids would be candidate Jim Cannon may be disqualified after a Gazette review found 18 or 19 petition signers living outside city limits. A 1:30 p.m. panel will decide if enough valid signatures remain for the Nov. 4 ballot while incumbent David Zahn contests the petitions.
Don Folkerts, 62, longtime Anamosa State Penitentiary cashier, retires after more than four decades overseeing inmate accounts. He plans three part time jobs and museum volunteering while cruising in a 1968 Corvette and keeping Chevrolet loyalty. Dave Rasdal notes Folkerts plans to stay active in the community and prison museum work.
