Hidden grotto shrine rises on North Buena Vista hill
Longtime project begun in 1937 by Msgr. Anthony Sigworth and locals created the Immaculate Conception grotto at North Buena Vista. Workers blasted 29 sticks of dynamite, hauled granite from 21 miles away, and installed a 700 pound statue from Germany. The site features a 25 foot cross and hillside altar lit by electric lines added later by Rev. Carl Rhuland.

Reduction noted in Iowa migrant workers
Migrant numbers in Iowa have fallen from about 7,000 in the late 1960s to an estimated 5,000 this year due to mechanization and new farming methods. In Muscatine and Mason City the largest groups work tomatoes, potatoes and vegetables, while cannonball tomatoes and herbicide use reduce the need for migrant labor. MAP aims to help migrants transition out of poverty through education, not welfare.
