Canarygrass and Trefoil Pastures Are Compared
Iowa State University researchers compared birdsfoot trefoil and reed canary grass as pasture forages with and without energy supplementation. Yearling steers were fed at Shelby Grundy farm 1965 66 67, measuring pasture gain and beef yield per acre. Canary grass outgrazed trefoil by season length and yielded higher beef per acre, especially with grain, while trefoil with grain offered better backfat and feed efficiency.

Indian Meal Moth Corn Bin Problem in Iowa
Iowa State extension entomologist Dr. Harold Gunderson reports Indian meal moth larvae infest stored corn in Ames. The full grown larvae reach about three quarters of an inch and feed on surface grain, forming silk webs that crust the surface and reduce air movement. A 2 percent malathion spray at one gallon per thousand square feet can control caterpillars, with surface agitation after application to improve aeration.
