Farm land values steady amid buyer interest in 1958

Winneshiek Breeders Set County Boar Sale

Winneshiek county purebred breeders plan a countywide tested boar sale with 40 boars, sponsored by the Winneshiek County Swine Improvement Association. The sale, scheduled for 8 p.m. September 9 at the Winneshiek county fair grounds, will feature blood tested boars for brucellosis and leptospirosis.

Angus Wins in 4 H Beef Show at Big 4 Fair

Postville reports Angus shown by Mike Baldwin of Wadena captured the champion baby beef at the Big-4 fair. Rob ert Kerr of Elgin displayed the reserve grand Shorthorn. A total of 72 head were exhibited, with Jon Johnson of Elkader winning the champion Angus cow and Rita Byrnes of Waukon taking first in the yearling classes.

USDA Buys Turkeys For National School Lunch Program

The USDA announced the purchase of 1,410,000 pounds of turkeys for schools in the National School Lunch program and will consider offers for about 1,000,000 pounds weekly. Purchases since July 31 total 8,190,000 pounds, with prices from 33.74 to 34.74 cents per pound.
