Cummings Sues to Break ASCAP Monopoly in Music Field
Attorney General Homer Cummings filed a federal suit seeking dissolution of the American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers and related groups under the Sherman Act. The government alleges the trio controls 90 percent of U S music publication sale and distribution and seeks injunctions to end blanket licensing and exclusive agreements. The suit names ASCAP the Music Publishers Protective Association and the Music Dealers Society and 131 defendants as officers of the three organizations. ASCP was founded in 1914.

Motorcyclist is Slightly Hurt in Third Street Collision
Motorcyclist M. O. Williamson of 1009 Second Street SE suffered a small cut on his right hand at 4 20 p m Thursday in a crash at Third Street and Third Avenue 8E. He collided with a car driven by O L Sirowy of 30 Blake Terrace SE who was making a left turn. Mrs Helen Dean of 516 Eighth Street SW reported a hit and run on Eleventh Street and First Avenue W. she could not provide the other vehicle’s license. A Buick hub cap was found at the scene. Public schools at Strawberry Point will reopen Monday with Supt E M Tanruther as principal and a list of faculty.
