High Schools More Likely Than Senior Centers to Have Defibrillators
A University of Iowa study in Prehospital Emergency Care finds 37 percent of 147 high schools had at least one automated external defibrillator versus 10 percent of 20 senior centers in 2001 02. Cardiac arrests were about 2 percent yearly in schools and 20 percent in centers. Dr Peter Cram of Carver College notes defibrillator placement seems counter intuitive given healthier school populations.
